Petition Details

We the undersigned petition Hillingdon Council to Investigate and take urgent, evidence-led action to address speeding and dangerous driving on Copsewood Way, Northgate, Nicholas Way, Linksway and The Broadwalk.

Copsewood Way, Northgate, Nicholas Way, Linksway and The Broadwalk are residential roads used daily by children, families, older residents, pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and animals. They should be safe places to live and travel.

Residents’ concerns are based on the following accounts and incidents:

Firsthand observation: On 19 September 2026, my children and I saw a black Porsche travelling along Copsewood Way at an estimated 50 mph or more. Children and families were using the narrow footpaths. We also saw a child pulled back by her mother, apparently to avoid a potential collision.

Documented or personally reported incident: Our cat, KitKat, was killed in a road accident at approximately noon on 24 September 2026. We understand that speeding may have been a factor based on video footage and witness accounts.

Reported incidents: Residents report that three cats died in daytime, vehicle-related incidents in the area within the last one month.

Resident reports: Residents regularly report excessive speeds and reckless or antisocial driving. These reports should be assessed against objective speed, traffic and collision data.

These accounts indicate a road-safety concern.

Preventative action is needed before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Proposed Action Plan

1. Measure the problem: Hillingdon Council should commission independent, comprehensive 24/7 speed and traffic surveys across all five roads. Surveys should record vehicle speeds, traffic volumes, vehicle types, time-of-day patterns, the percentage exceeding the limit and 85th-percentile speeds.

2. Review reported incidents: Hillingdon Council and the Metropolitan Police should identify and review available collision, enforcement and incident records for the area, including any reports involving pedestrians, cyclists, animals or property damage.

3. Coordinate enforcement: The Council and Metropolitan Police should agree a joint response to reckless and antisocial driving, including targeted enforcement at locations and times identified by reliable evidence.

4. Assess camera enforcement: Assess fixed, average-speed and mobile camera options, suitable locations and legal requirements, based on survey and collision data.

5. Install speed\-warning measures: Assess vehicle-activated speed signs and other electronic warnings, and monitor their effectiveness using before-and-after speed data.

6.Review the speed limit: Assess whether a 20 mph limit or extension is appropriate, using speed, collision, road-design and compliance data.

7.Complete a road-safety audit: Review signage, markings, lighting, junctions, footways and driveway visibility, and prioritise improvements according to assessed risk.

8. Support Community Speed Watch: Support residents in establishing Community Speed Watch, with activity and outcomes reported regularly and interpreted alongside official speed data.

Why Action Is Needed

This petition is not about inconvenience or traffic levels. Residents are concerned that someone could be seriously injured or killed.

The traffic related deaths of three cats within one month, the firsthand account of a child being pulled away from a vehicle, and the observed vehicle speed of approximately 50 mph warrant investigation. They should not be treated as conclusive evidence of the overall risk without independent verification, but they provide reasonable grounds for collecting objective data and reviewing road-safety measures.

We ask Hillingdon Council, the Metropolitan Police and relevant partners to:

- publish objective speed and traffic data;
- explain how reported concerns have been assessed; and
- implement proportionate, evidence-based measures where risks are identified.

Our Request

Please support this petition and call on Hillingdon Council to assess and, where necessary, improve safety on Copsewood Way, Northgate, Nicholas Way, Linksway and The Broadwalk for everyone who lives in, walks through, cycles through or drives through our community.

Slow down. Investigate the evidence. Take proportionate action. Save lives.
